Washtenaw Community College Partners with MadCap Software to Empower Students with Advanced Technical Writing Tools and Ensure Successful Careers in Technical Communications

La Jolla, CA and Ann Arbor, MI — January 13, 2014 — Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is joining forces with MadCap Software to ensure students pursuing its Technical Communications Associate in Arts Degree or Technical Communications Certificate have clear competitive advantages when entering the workforce. Starting January 2014, the school will take advantage of MadCap Flare—the state-of-the art, future-proof authoring and multi-channel publishing software that supports print, Web, desktop and mobile—to provide students with the most advanced authoring and publishing solution available today. As a result, students will gain expertise in modern technical writing techniques through hands-on experience with the software used by thousands of companies across the globe.

WCC is dedicated to enriching the experiences of students in its English and Writing Department with leading technical communications tools and practices that will position them for successful careers. WCC plans to implement MadCap Flare in January as an update to its upper-level "ENG 209: Technical Writing III" course. Students enrolled in the class will be able to take advantage of Flare for completing hands-on projects that put concepts—such as topic-based authoring, the use of cascading style sheets, and single-source publishing—into practice. Ultimately, students will be able to generate different project outputs for print, online and mobile.

Having experienced great success with MadCap Flare in the past, I’m thrilled to share this real-world technical writing tool with our students. The projects we’ll be doing are building efforts that are not reactive, but proactive. MadCap has always been ahead of the curve with unbelievable services, responding to trends in the field and addressing user needs before they even realize it. The company genuinely cares about its customers by providing a great product. Once you’re a member, it’s for life!

Lisa Veasey | Technical Communication Professor and Advisor in the Department of English and Writing, Washtenaw Community College

“We are thrilled by Washtenaw Community College’s adoption of MadCap Flare to enrich its course structure and support the real-world demands facing technical communications professionals today," said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. "Partnering with WCC highlights a shared vision for growth in education, best practices and opportunities. Through our MadCap Scholar Program, we can provide students with a competitive advantage in the workforce by empowering them to gain expertise in the modern techniques and tools used by businesses today.”
