Certification

How To Get Certified

Want to show off your MadCap Flare expertise and demonstrate your abilities to your industry and peers? Certification is just a few steps away. Here’s an overview of what it takes to complete the MadCap Advanced Developer (MAD) program.

STEP 1

Prepare
for the Test

TAKE A CERTIFIED TRAINING COURSE

The best way to prepare for certification is to take a web-based certified training course from MadSkills. The questions on the test are drawn directly from the course guides and class content. By the end of the course, you will also learn best practices for creating Flare projects, which will help you successfully pass the sample project requirements.

The Flare documentation and the guides listed in the Help menu are a great way to familiarize yourself with Flare. In addition, browse the Flare videos and webinars for more resources.

Take a practice test

The certification practice test has ten questions, and is a representation of the actual questions that may appear in the exam. If you are ready to test your knowledge, take the practice test.

STEP 2

Register
for the Test

You will need to purchase a key to access the certification test. The test can be purchased through the MadCap Store.

Once the purchase is complete, you will be sent an email with a link to the test and the unique access key. The unique access key can only be used one time to take the test. If you do not pass the test, you can purchase another certification key for a 50% discount.

STEP 3

Take the
Certification Test

The MAD Certification test is an online test comprised of 50 questions, with an allotted test time of 75 minutes. Unanswered questions are counted as incorrect. In order to pass the test, you need a passive score of 70% or above.

Please refrain from referring to notes, course guides, books, or any other materials while taking the test. If you need to use these materials, you may need additional time to prepare for the test. If you need to look for answers, you will run out of test time and need to retake the test.

Once your test has been submitted, please allow up to 24 hours to receive your email with test results from the test administrator.

STEP 4

Create
a Sample Project

After you complete the test, you will receive an email with the results. If you earn a passing score, you will need to complete and submit a sample project. Once you submit your project, it will be reviewed by a MAD Certified user. You will be notified by email of the results of the review.

Conditional Pass Icon If you conditionally pass, you will be asked to correct or modify your project and resubmit it.

Fail Icon If you fail, you will need to create and submit a new project.

Sample project requirements

The sample project can be about any topic as long as it is not work-related. Here are a few suggested topics to get you started:

  • a place (a real or imaginary city, country, tourist attraction, etc.)
  • a sports team
  • a person or group
  • recipes

The sample project should contain at least the following:

  • 12 topics
  • 6 links
  • 3 images
  • a skin
  • a page layout
  • a template page
  • 2 condition tags
  • 2 different output types

Note: All submitted content will become the property of MadCap Software.

Congratulations! You’re Certified.

What Do I Do Once I’m Certified?

Once you’ve completed the MAD Certification program, you’ll receive a personalized certificate, along with the Certified MAD for Flare logo.

We encourage that you use the logo on your website, resume, online profiles and other materials, to increase visibility and recognition.

How Do I Stay MAD Certified?

Certification for the MAD Certification Program is valid for the current version of MadCap Flare. Once you’re certified MAD for Flare, your certification will remain valid indefinitely for the specific version for which the certification was taken.

Upon release of the new version of MadCap Flare, you can purchase a re-certification test code. Re-certification for the next version does not require a new sample project.

To purchase a recertification test code, please contact sales@madcapsoftware.com.
