Etteplan | Tedopres and MadCap Software Partner to Enable Single-Source Publishing of Simplified Technical English

Launch of Etteplan | Tedopres HyperSTE Plugin for MadCap Flare Empowers Authors to Write STE Content Once and Deliver it in the Format and Language of Readers' Choice

La Jolla, CA, USA and The Netherlands— May 15, 2013— MadCap Software, Inc. and Etteplan Oyj’s Dutch subsidiary, Etteplan | Tedopres, have entered a strategic partnership facilitate the authoring of content in Simplified Technical English (STE). Etteplan | Tedopres is the maker of HyperSTE, best-in-class quality assurance software for standardized documentation. MadCap Software is the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio and Microsoft XPS. Through their partnership, the companies are delivering HyperSTE for MadCap Flare, MadCap’s flagship software for multi-channel, single-source publishing of content to print, Web and mobile devices.

Realizing the STE Advantage

The Simplified Technical English specification provides guidelines for authoring clear, concise documentation. This clean, standardized approach to writing has enabled multi-national companies to trim their translation costs by up to 30%. At the same time, the concise style is tailor made for the smaller screens of mobile devices. As a result, STE is rapidly gaining adoption by companies seeking to optimize how they deliver content to their customers, partners and employees.

HyperSTE from Etteplan | Tedopres supports STE content development by providing rich, comprehensive functionality for checking content grammar, terminology and style. It is now available as a plugin for MadCap Flare, the only software that lets authors create a single project and then directly publish it in multiple formats optimized for the Web, mobile devices, desktops, and print publishing. Additionally, the native XML architecture and support for Unicode and right to left (RTL) languages in Flare facilitate the ability to translate content into a broad range of languages. Using HyperSTE and Flare together, authors now have a powerful platform for developing content in STE once and then delivering it in the format and language of readers’ choice.

“Hand-in-hand with the global adoption of MadCap Flare and a rapid rise in the use of our software for multi-device publishing, we are seeing greater interest among our customers for the ability to author content in Simplified Technical English,” said MadCap Founder and CEO Anthony Olivier. “Through our partnership with Etteplan | Tedopres, we can now provide authors a fully integrated solution for standardizing their vocabulary and styles to further improve consistency, eliminate ambiguity, and reduce the complexity of their content—while ensuring compliance with corporate terminology and style guide rules. “The innovation of HyperSTE in ensuring quality STE content provides a powerful complement and natural extension to our cutting-edge Flare software.”

"MadCap Flare is in use at our company as well as at many of our customers where it has proven to be a comprehensive, state-of-the-art tool for creating and publishing content across multiple channels and facilitating translation into other languages,” said Berry Braster, marketing and sales director of Etteplan | Tedopres. “We immediately saw the synergies of partnering with MadCap to combine the power of our HyperSTE software with Flare to provide an integrated solution for delivering feature-rich STE content.”
