How To Get Certified
Want to show off your MadCap Flare expertise and demonstrate your abilities to your industry and peers? Certification is just a few steps away. Here’s an overview of what it takes to complete the MadCap Advanced Developer (MAD) program:
Step 1: Prepare for the Test
Take a Class
The best way to prepare for certification is to take a Flare Basic/Intermediate course and/or an Advanced training course. The questions on the test are drawn directly from the course guides and class content. In class, you will also learn best practices for creating Flare projects, which will help you successfully pass the sample project requirements.
Taking a course is not mandatory for certification; however, it will prepare you for the certification program test.
Explore MadCap Resources
If it's been a while since you attended a training course, you can use your course guide to prepare for the class. You can also read the Flare documentation and the guides listed in the Help menu.
In addition, watch our Flare videos for more information on MadCap Flare.
Take a Practice Test
The certification practice test has ten questions, and is a representation of the actual questions that may appear in the exam. If you are ready to test your knowledge, take the practice test.
Step 2: Register for the Test
You will need to purchase a key to access the certification test. The test costs $149 and can be purchased through the MadCap Store.
Once the purchase is complete, you will be sent an email with a link to the test and the unique access key.
The unique access key can only be used one time to take the test. If you do not pass the test, you can purchase another certification key for a 50% discount.
Step 3: Take the Certification Test
The MAD Certification test is an online test comprised of 50 questions, with an allotted test time of 75 minutes. Unanswered questions are counted as incorrect. In order to pass the test, you need a passing score of 70% or above.
We ask that you not refer to notes, course guides, books, or any other materials while taking the test. If you need to use these materials, you are not ready to take the test. The test time passes very quickly. If you need to look for answers, you will run out of test time.
Once your test has been submitted, please allow up to 24 hours to receive your email with test results from the test administrator.
Step 4: Create a Sample Project
After you complete the test, you will receive an email with the results. If you earn a passing score, you will need to complete the sample project. The sample project can be about any of the following topics:
- a place (a real or imaginary city, country, tourist attraction, etc.)
- a sports team
- a person or group
The sample project should contain at least the following:
- 12 topics
- 6 links
- 3 images
- a skin
- a page layout
- a master page
- 2 condition tags
- 2 different output types
Note: All submitted content will become the property of MadCap Software.
Once you submit your project, it will be reviewed by a MAD Certified user. You will be notified by email of the results of the review.
- If you pass, you will receive the certified logo and certificate.
- If you conditionally pass, you will be asked to correct or modify your project and resubmit it.
- If you fail, you will need to create and submit a new project.
To submit your project, zip your Flare source files and email them to MADproject@certifiedMAD.com.
Congratulations! You’re Certified.
Once you’re certified you’ll receive a certificate, and you will be able to use the MAD Certified logo on your website, resume, and other materials.
Your certification is for a specific version. When a new version of Flare is released, you can purchase a recertification test code for $75. Recertification for the next version does not require a new sample project. If you were not certified for the previous version, you will need to submit a sample project.
To purchase a recertification test code, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
