MADCAP SOFTWARE ADDS FRAMEMAKER EXPERT TO LEAD MADCAP BLAZE PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
Sharon Burton Leverages Nearly 20 Years in Technical Communications to Lead Delivery of
First Native XML Content Authoring Software for Large Documents
San Diego, CA, USA – September 18, 2007
— MadCap Software, the leader
in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)
Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft XPS, today announced that Sharon Burton has joined the
MadCap team as product manager for MadCap Blaze. In this role, Ms. Burton will help drive the
development of Blaze, the first native XML software for producing large documents—such as
books, manuals, and illustrated guides. Blaze, which combines the power of Adobe FrameMaker
with Microsoft Word-like ease of use, has been selected by Microsoft as a showcase product for its
XPS (XML paper specification) format.
Ms. Burton is a nationally recognized practitioner, business expert, and speaker in the field of
technical communication. With nearly 20 years of experience in the field, she has consulted with
large and small companies to improve their product documentation and documentation processes.
Ms. Burton also is considered one of the top FrameMaker experts in the country. She has used the
software since her first technical writing job in 1992 and has consulted with such companies as
Canon Medical, Sterling Software, Stargazer Aviation, and Co-op Networks on how to effectively
leverage FrameMaker in their environments.
Ms. Burton is an adjunct professor in the engineering department at the University of California,
Riverside, teaching technical communications to engineers. Additionally, she teaches technical
communication topics, such as FrameMaker, at the University of California, Riverside and San
Diego Extensions.

Ms. Burton joins MadCap Software from her position as technical publication manager at
Wonderware, a provider of industrial automation and information software solutions. Prior to her
role at Wonderware, Ms. Burton owned and ran Anthrobytes Consulting for 10 years. She has also
been active in the Society for Technical Communication (STC), where her many roles have
included serving as president of the STC Inland Empire Chapter. Ms. Burton has received
numerous awards for her work from organizations such as STC and Apex. Additionally, she is a
Ph.D. candidate in cultural anthropology at the University of California, Riverside.
