MADCAP SOFTWARE LAUNCHES MADCAP CAPTURE 2.0 AND MADPAK, THE FIRST
MULTI-PRODUCT SINGLE-SOURCING SUITE FOR MULTI-CHANNEL PUBLISHING
MadCap Capture 2.0 integration completes suite-wide single-source publishing;
introduction of MadPak now results in the industry’s strongest suite of tools
for content authoring, single-sourcing, and multi-channel publishing
San Diego, CA, USA – February 13, 2007
— MadCap Software, the leader
in multi-channel content authoring, today announced the launch of the MadPak suite and
MadCap Capture 2.0, a cutting-edge screen capture and graphics editing program. MadPak
sets another industry first by enabling multi-product single-source publishing to
multiple channels, including the Web, intranets, desktop systems, and print
documentation. Joining Flare 2.5 for content authoring and MadCap Mimic 1.0 for software
simulation, Capture 2.0 features new points of integration, adding the final links to
create MadPak’s suite-wide single-sourcing.
MadPak’s multi-product single-sourcing provides unprecedented ease and efficiency
for creating, delivering, and updating structured content to all the online and print
channels that enterprises use today. Designed for customers’ real-world requirements,
MadPak enables the single-source, multi-channel publishing of text, static images,
software simulations, and tutorials required for user Help systems, sales and marketing,
training and eLearning, technical support, policies and procedures, and knowledge bases.
MadPak includes the newest versions of MadCap Software’s multi-channel content
authoring products, which are based on industry-standard native XML and support Unicode
for easy translation to both single- and double-byte languages. Flare 2.5, also released
today, is MadCap’s flagship application for single-source content authoring and
delivery. Capture 2.0 for screen capture and graphics editing, sports enhanced
integration with Flare for linking images and sharing variables (content that can be
customized as needed for delivery to different audiences). MadCap Mimic 1.0 is
MadCap’s state-of-the-art tool for creating software simulation movies and also
integrates with Flare for linking movies and sharing variables.
As a result of the tight integration among the MadPak applications, both Mimic and
Capture can be launched from within the Flare interface. In addition, Flare authors
can quickly insert Capture images into content, and they can insert Mimic movie links
from topics, tables of contents, and browse sequences. Thanks to these links, Flare
project variables can be inserted into Mimic and Capture. This enables a user to modify
a definition for the linked variable in Flare. If the definition for the linked variable
is changed in Flare, it changes everywhere simultaneously—in Flare content, in
Mimic movies, and in Capture images. The result is an industry first in true
single-sourcing between three integrated products.
“We have recognized significant gains in quality and efficiency from the clean
implementation of single-source publishing within Flare. We also have been very pleased
with the image capture and graphics capabilities of Capture,” said Erin Pederson,
director of sales and marketing at StaffTechs, a division of StaffMe.net that delivers
information systems and technology products and outsourcing services. “With its
multi-product single-sourcing, MadPak represents an exciting development for any
organization that needs an effective, timely, and consistent way to deliver Web content
or documents with integrated images or movies.”
“MadCap was founded to produce a new future-proof architecture for content
authoring and delivery that would specifically address companies’ needs for
publishing across multiple Web, intranet, and print channels,” said Anthony Olivier,
MadCap CEO. “As the first publishing suite to offer multi-product single-sourcing,
MadPak carries forward this mission and sets a new standard in multi-channel publishing.
By providing a highly integrated way to create and update structured content, MadCap also
is helping to solve many of today’s content management challenges by addressing them
at the source.”
Capture 2.0 Image Capture and Graphics Editing
Capture 2.0 is the newest version of MadCap’s cutting-edge screen capture and
graphics editing software, which is designed specifically to address the needs of
documentation professionals. Capture allows users to create images from a computer
screen in multiple ways (including capturing a full screen, an application, an
adjustable region, a UI element, and more). From the editor inside Capture, an image
can be modified and enhanced in numerous ways, such as adding objects (e.g., shapes,
text callouts), adding borders, resizing, cropping, and applying special effects.
Additional features in Capture 2.0 include:
- Unicode support for all left-to-right languages, a unique feature for a graphics
editing application, and especially useful for translating image text into a myriad
of languages.
- Variables for re-usable content, including advanced integration with MadCap Flare.
- Palettes for designing and storing objects for later use.
- Profiles, which allow users to specify settings for an image before it is captured.
- Effects—such as shading, zoom, blur, and grayscale—which allow users to
emphasize a particular area of an image.
- Editable layers, which make it possible to change objects in an image, even after the
image has been saved.
- Multi-purpose image output, which enables users to produce a single-source graphics file
that serves the needs of many diverse objectives, such as printed manuals, brochures,
websites, intranets, video tutorials, and more.
- Spell checking object text for a single image or multiple images
