MADCAP SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF CAPTURE

— MadCap Software today announced its latest offering in the release of Capture—a new breed of graphics software with features that move it beyond the typical screen capture or image editing program. Capture is ideal for anyone needing to create and enhance computer graphics. It was designed especially with documentation professionals in mind, in order to provide unique solutions for common problems.Capture allows users to create images from a computer screen in multiple ways (including capturing a full screen, an application, an adjustable region, a UI element, and more). From the editor inside Capture, an image can be modified and enhanced in numerous ways, such as adding objects (e.g., shapes, text callouts), adding borders, resizing, cropping, and applying special effects.
“But it is much more than a typical screen capture tool or graphics program,” said Bjorn Backlund, CTO of MadCap Software. “With Capture, users will find unique features that they won’t find anywhere else. Features that take away a lot of the pain that sometimes comes with image creation and documentation.”
One of these unique features is Capture’s single-sourcing functionality. MadCap Software developers designed Capture to be tightly integrated with Flare V2, MadCap’s flagship Help authoring product. Because of this tight integration, Authors can now produce “single-source images,” a new concept in the field of Help documentation. From a single image, an author can generate an output file appropriate for online Help (e.g., low resolution, color) and another output file for a printed manual (e.g., high resolution, gray scale), sending the output to Microsoft (NasdaqNM: MSFT) Word or Adobe FrameMaker.
Additional features highlighted in Capture include palettes (which let you design and store objects for later use), profiles (which let you specify settings for an image before it is captured), effects (such as shading, zoom, blur, and gray scale—which let you emphasize a particular area of an image), and editable layers (which let you make changes to objects in an image, even after the image has been saved).
