Several people have asked us how to connect our WebHelp output to Google Analytics.  We are sure that there are going to be variations to these steps and different account settings for Google Analytics, but this is how we got it to work.

  1. Create a Google Analytics account (if your Help system lives in, set up Google Analytics to point to
  2. In your Flare Project, create a Master Page
  3. Open the Master Page in the text editor and paste the Tracking Code before the </head> tag and save.
  4. In your Target | Advanced Tab, set the Master Page to the one that you just created.
  5. Generate and publish WebHelp to the location that you defined in the Google Analytics settings.

Please note that it takes time for the data to get into Google from your Help System.
If you do not like ‘bloat’ added to your content you can create a JS file with the tracking code provided by Google, save it to the Resources Folder and just add a call to that file from your Master Page.

Hello, I’ve posted out to the MadCap LinkedIn forum and also the MapCap forum, no replies yet, but would I follow the same steps, 1 thru 5, to integrate Google Analytics into my Flare HTML 5 project?

Here is my original question posted today on both forums:
Is there a way to integrate Google Analytics within an HTML 5 project? Pulse will not fit our needs since we have partners and third-party vendors who access our product line.

For our Phase I release, Marketing is interested in finding out who visits our Help Center, located within our product, and we’ll need to track our visitors, the guests who visit our Help topics. Eventually, we’d like our visitors to be able to add comments and to rate each topic using a star system.

Could someone please provide me with the Google Analytics code and also the instructions on how to integrate this code into my HTML project within the Master Page?
