The Power of Snippet Conditions and Snippet Variables In MadCap Flare

Track 1 Advanced Training

Snippets, conditions, and variables are important components of single-sourcing. Conditions can be used to build various output with different content. Variables can be used to use different labels in identical content. Snippets can be used to avoid redundancy. However, the concept of snippets, variables and conditions reaches its limits when content is not identical and unsuitable for single-source best practices. Enter snippet conditions and snippet variables, which can easily overcome these limitations. In this advanced session, learn practical application scenarios and how to plan and keep track of snippet conditions and snippet variables in MadCap Flare.

Global Project Linking: Advanced Techniques for Sharing Files Across Projects

Track 1 Advanced Training

Two of the major goals of user assistance development are consistency and ease of maintenance. Both can be achieved by maximizing the re-use of content and key project assets (such as style sheets and skins) across multiple projects. MadCap Flare has two major features that support team collaboration across projects: Global Project Linking and the External Resources. This workshop session looks in detail at the two features, demonstrates how to set them up and use them, explains the differences between them, and describes how they can work in tandem with a source control system such as Git or SVN. It also examines ways in which you can extend the capabilities of the standard features, automate the synchronization of files between projects, or even use your own custom techniques for re-using files across projects.

MadCap Flare in a Localization Environment

Track 1 Advanced Training

Using MadCap Flare as a tool for documentation makes sense when you have to deal with both localization and translation. A near perfect setup in Flare will considerably reduce the translations costs - and at the same time, make content writing simpler. In this session, Thomas will cover how to control multiple languages in one project, how to assemble and send a Flare project to LSP, and tips on reducing translation costs. In addition, he’ll discuss how to use MadCap Lingo as a translation tool and how to handle images in a translation workflow.
