Breaking the Build Event Horizon: Part 1

If you've ever looked for information on build events, you know that the world can be an empty place with few examples and fewer solutions. When you free yourself of the constraints of batch scripting, and add XSL transformations, build events become a powerful way to automate changes to your content before and after you build your project. In this workshop, we'll look at some simple - and not so simple - but powerful build events. You’ll see functional examples of how XSL can change variables on-the-fly, add metadata or scripts based on page content, choose a CSS based on conditions or variables, and more. This presentation is a demonstration of what’s possible with build events, from the obscure to the obvious. Whether you just need a few ideas or want to add these whole-cloth to your project, you’ll see what’s possible when you break the build event horizon.

Breaking the Build Event Horizon: Part 2

In part 2, we’ll take a deep-dive into the real-world challenges of implementing these XSL-based build events. Breaking down the build events demonstrated in “Breaking the Build Event Horizon: Part 1”, we’ll go line by line to explain the logic behind each command in the scripts and stylesheets. This session will also address concerns of portability and re-usability in the diverse environment of multiple authors and projects.
