How to Add Clickable Buttons to Your Online Output Using MadCap Flare

Have you ever wanted to add any of the following to your user assistance site: a Contact Us button that opens up a template email; a Download PDF button that opens the relevant PDF output for that page; a Find out more button that opens up the sales site for an upgrade, add-on or additional service; a custom toolbar button that appears alongside the standard options? Buttons are a great way to improve the user experience of your site and increase user engagement. In this session, learn how to add a variety of buttons to your Flare project, how to style these to maximize clicks, and how to include analytics so you can prove the benefit to others. Join Caroline for a deep dive into the toolbar skin in MadCap Flare and a look at how to add buttons directly into your topic content. She’ll also demonstrate how you can create a reusable button that opens a different link based on the page a user is on (thanks to a little JavaScript). A sample project will be provided as part of this session.

The Organized MadCap Method: Best Practices on Maintaining Consistent Documentation

If you work as part of a team, you’ll know how easy it is to forget who was going to check for broken links or who is publishing this week. It’s even more difficult when you’re all in different offices and work different hours! Not to mention the challenges of following specific guidelines to ensure your documentation is consistent, such as word capitalization or instructing users to ‘select’ or ‘click’. In this session, Caroline Coyne and Eloise Lewis cover how to use a Flare project for your internal processes and guidelines so that writers old and new know what writing styles and preferences to use and how to carry out all their routine tasks. You’ll also see how setting up a schedule for publishing Flare projects makes it easy for everyone to see what they need to do and when. Essential for writers and managers alike, this session will help you ensure that nothing gets forgotten and you know exactly who is responsible for each task.
