MadCap Software Launches Capture 3.0 for Cutting-edge Screen Capture and Graphics Editing

MadCap Capture Adds New System Clipboard Integration and Significantly Enhances Text Single-Sourcing, Image Editing Features, and Output Options

La Jolla, CA, USA – October 6, 2008 — MadCap Software, the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft XPS, today announced the launch of MadCap Capture 3.0. Capture is MadCap’s cutting-edge screen capture and graphics editing software, which is designed specifically to address the needs of documentation professionals. With version 3.0, Capture adds several important enhancements to provide greater image integration, quality, and control, including:

• Image text single-sourcing. Capture 3.0 expands on the integration with MadCap Flare, MadCap’s flagship authoring software, which enables single-sourcing of content across the two applications. Now authors can enter a text description (screen tip or alternative text) for an image in a centralized location, so every time the image appears in a Flare project, the text automatically appears with it. Authors simply need to edit text once to have the updates appear everywhere.

• System clipboard integration. Authors can now automatically save and insert screen captures into any application with direct system clipboard integration.

• Optimized size configuration for print and online publishing. Capture 3.0 allows authors to establish separate height and width settings for print and online publishing to ensure that images look their best wherever they appear.

• Delayed capture. Capture 3.0 provides a time delay feature that lets you automatically capture an image after a certain number of seconds. This makes it possible to take screenshots showing elements such as drop-down menus and tool tips.

• Image blurring and magnification. In addition to being able to blur images around shapes, authors can now blur the area within shapes. This is an easy way to hide sensitive information on images. Additionally, the Capture 3.0 magnifier lets authors magnify a section of an image prior to capturing it, providing greater fidelity than zoom techniques required in the past.

• Enhanced XPS support. Capture 3.0 provides the ability to save and load images in Microsoft XPS, providing a much crisper image that does not become pixelated when someone zooms in. The new functionality in Capture complements support for the XPS standard available with other MadCap solutions, including Flare, Blaze and X-Edit.

Other Capture 3.0 enhancements include user-defined cursors and customizable hot keys for greater personalization, the ability to zoom during the editing process for more accurate editing, improved image cropping, single-click text box creation, and the ability to save all images in one click. Like all MadCap products, Capture is based on native XML and offers full Unicode support for Western and Asian languages.

“Capture 3.0 is an important part of delivering a complete content workflow, and it extends our commitment to delivering the ultimate documentation experience in print, online, and in any language,” said Anthony Olivier, MadCap co-founder and CEO. “With our newest release of Capture, authors now have best-in-class features for image capture, editing, and output—combined with the unique ability to support cross-product single-source publishing—in a single product.”

Cross-Product Single-Sourcing with Capture

Capture is part of MadPak, the industry’s only true single-source suite for multi-channel publishing. Other solutions include MadCap Flare for multi-channel authoring; MadCap Analyzer for analyzing, reporting on, and recommending improvements to a project’s content; MadCap Mimic for creating software simulation movies; and MadCap Echo for Web 2.0 audio functions. The unique ability to link a variable in Flare to Capture and Mimic means that anytime the linked variable is changed in Flare, it changes everywhere simultaneously—in Flare content, in Capture images, and in Mimic movies. Capture 3.0 also is fully integrated with MadCap Blaze for publishing long, complex print documents, providing the same level of cross-product single-sourcing that is available with Flare.

Availability and Pricing

MadCap Capture 3.0 is available today. The standalone product is priced at $89 per single-user license. The MadPak sells for $1,299 per license. MadCap Capture and the MadPak are backed by a range of service and support options, delivered by MadCap’s US-based team of documentation experts. Fees for support start at $449 per year.
